This drawing is the fourth in a series of my ‘cross-carpet pages’ (a term used to describe the pages of abstract decoration in medieval gospel texts), I think of these cross-carpet pages as being a meditation aid for the artist and potentially the viewer.
This drawing was made during time spent on the Knoydart peninsula in the Scottish Highlands. Whilst there I spent a lot of time swimming and walking along the beautiful river Ie. Just beside the best swimming spot on the river is the site of, a now long gone, medieval chapel founded by the Irish Saint Comgan. I made this drawing in dedication to the place and the Saint, and the drawing contains motifs relating to the river, the surrounding mountains and the Kilchoan (meaning church of St Comgan) stone cross, which stands just nearby.
